I am from a small town in South Carolina. My ancestors in Montgomery County, North Carolina started a mine during the first gold rush in the US, so hard work and the value of a dollar was passed down. I grew up around working people, smart folks who did not have a chance to go to college. My parents were determined that their children get a higher education, and I was the first male in our extended family to graduate college, gaining my Electrical Engineering degree from Clemson University. I later added an MBA from Duke University. I spent a thirty-year career leading engineering design teams for companies like Motorola, Intel, and leading various DOD contracts.
My love for finance really took off while at Duke. Twenty years ago I passed my Series 7 and almost went to work for American Express, but the risk to needed income with three small kids made me postpone that decision until getting back to it these last few years.
Helping folks identify and meet their life financial goals is what drives me. I was able to do so in my life, and I want to share that viewpoint and my skills with other working people. Being a part of Dave Ramsey’s SVP team is wonderful, I have never worked with people that are uniformly so kind and have such high integrity. I also enjoy spending time with my family, researching and writing books, watching ACC sports, reading, and taking road trips with my wife Anne.
